About "Terrain"
I take thousand’s of pictures with my i-phone camera. I also enjoy sharing them on social media, participating in the trend of posting photos of the landscapes we inhabit or visit. While scrolling through approximately 1500 randomly taken photos of a road trip throughout the Great Plains, canyons and deserts of the United States I recognized a subtle shift in the colours and textures of the images in the grids that were displayed on my screen. My intention in painting 1000 of these images is to translate and magnify this virtual arrangement of images to the material physicality of paint. Each painting represents a unique moment wherein the viewer can see the changes in climate and temperature as the terrain changed. It is also a way for me to place myself at that particular time and place.
